COACH'S TIPS
The Paradox: Let Go and Gain Control

by Carol A. Henry

Gaining control of our lives means first taking a look at how we spend our time, asking ourselves some pointed questions, and discovering true priorities. Next, we simplify and organize the rest of our lives so we can spend time on those chosen priorities. Usually this means letting go of things…old ways of doing things which have ceased to work, expectations of a relationship, possessions that are time eaters, dealing with clutter, and, of course, procrastination.

Coaching Tips

1. Take time to decide what you find most satisfying
Track how you spend your day. Divide a piece of paper into five columns:

Rate on a 1 - 5 scale and log everything. You’ll have an accurate blueprint of your life and what needs shifting.

2. Go with the flow

A. Acceptance: thngs are exactly the way they are supposed to be. We struggle with the universe when we struggle against the way things are right now.

B. Responsibility: this means not blaming anyone else for your situation.

C. Defenselessness: give up the need to be right- you’ll free up ann incredible amount of energy to flow more positively.

3. Create time to do the thngs you care about
      ;Relax your standards
      ;Discard unpleasant stereotypical roles

;Hire someone to do things for you

;Be flexible

;Prioritize

;Let go of the extra stuff

;Learn to enjoy what’s in front of you

4. Simplify and organize your home and office

;Make a list of areas in home/office that need organizing
;Start with something simple: one drawer in your desk
;Check it off your list and see your progress
;The old adage “a place for everything and everything in its place” relieves stress and gives you an organized, accomplished environment

REMEMBER: Nature abhors vacuum. If you want somethng new and better, get rid of the old and create a space for the new to enter. You’ll be delighted with the results. Rule of thumb: if it hasn’t been used or worn for more than 2 years, discard it or give it to your favorite charity.
